Learning About Brazil

Hello again! This week we are learning about Brazil. Along with learning about some of the culture and geography of Brazil, we are also learning about the Amazon Rainforest. It’s been pretty cool to learn about the different types of animals and insects that live there. As well as the “layers” of the rainforest and how everything works together as its own little ecosystem. Isn’t life amazing?

I’m teaching my older daughter how to write a very simple research paper. And by that I mean researching an animal from the rainforest and writing one paragraph. She absolutely loves the big cats of the world but I wanted her to switch it up because she recently researched cheetahs. This time she chose to write about the anaconda. Did you know that they are the largest snake in the world, and that they live in water and on land? Sort of terrifying. But also cool.

We also learned that the reason Brazil is the only Portuguese speaking country in South America is because of the Treaty of Tordesillas. Where Portugal and Spain “drew a line” in the Atlantic ocean and Spain claimed West of the line and Portugal claimed East of the line. Although the line moved later on and because of it then running through Brazil, Portugal was able to claim Brazil which caused Brazil to become a Portuguese speaking country.

Tomorrow we are going to be creating a rainforest. We will be using construction paper to make our forest and I’ll be making some animals that they can place in the different layers of the rainforest. We’ll also label the layers and the animals that live there. This will help me to see if they have actually been listening this week 😉

I wanted to include a coloring sheet in our time of learning about Brazil. In my opinion, one of the prettiest things that lives in the rainforest is the Blue Morpho Butterfly. You can find some cool information by clicking here. The males tend to have the vibrant blue color…as with anything in the animal kingdom I suppose. They also have a brown color with “eye spots” on the underside of their wings to protect themselves form predators. How neat!

Learn about Brazil: Blue Morpho

The drawing I’ve done on the left was inspired by the image on the right. This coloring page is meant to be done in shades of blue, but as with any coloring page, feel free to choose any colors you like. Relax and escape to the Amazon Rainforest. Imagine you’re trying to search for these beautiful creatures in the thick greenery of the understory. As always, happy coloring!

Ice Cream Coloring Sheets

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a beautiful weekend. I received a request to draw something ice cream related this past week. So I decided to go ahead and draw two different ice cream coloring sheets. Who doesn’t love ice cream? There are so many flavors to choose from and toppings as well…there’s pretty much an infinite number of wonderful creations you can make if only you use your imagination.

Coloring Sheet: ice cream cone

First up, we have a plain scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. You can choose to make it something simple like; chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. Or you can go for something more intricate like: rocky road, mint chocolate chip or even a circus cookie scoop by adding delicious looking chunks within the ice cream.

Coloring sheet: sundae

Next is an ice cream sundae. This one was personally inspired by chocolate cookie sandwiches. Something I’ve been craving and I always love a good cookies and cream ice cream. This drawing has layers of vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge, crumbled chocolate sandwich cookies and sprinkles. Topped of course with fresh whipped cream, more sprinkles and a cherry. Oh my! I wish I could reach into the page and pull out the actual sundae. Maybe I’ll just have to make one of my own.

Take a break to color in these ice cream coloring sheets and imagine you are at your favorite ice cream parlor. Or maybe you’ve time traveled into the 1950s and you are at a cute little diner getting some ice cream with a few of your best friends. Whatever you decide, enjoy the break in the craziness of the world. Take some time for you and remember…happy coloring!

Skull and Succulents

Hello again! Have you ever been to a plant nursery that has a lot of succulents? I have been to a plant nursery but not to one that had a lot of succulents. I have however gone to my friends house and they have like a billion different and unique succulents. Yes, a billion may be a slight over-exaggeration but they have so many it’s hard to keep track of them all. While I was there inspiration struck and I started taking pictures of some of them. I figured that my first succulent coloring sheet did pretty well so I wanted to make another one for you. Today we have a skull and succulents coloring sheet.

Coloring Sheet: Skull and succulents

I love skulls. Maybe that’s because of my degree in science…maybe I’m just weird 😉 In any case…they are super cool and intricate and beautiful. I also think that as an artist they are super challenging to draw perfectly or even similarly sometimes. There can be so much detail that you can add or leave out. For my simple coloring sheet it is lacking a lot of detail. If I were to sketch this in pencil or charcoal there would be much more detail and shading involved, instantly taking it to the next level of “coolness”.

I hope you have fun escaping to the desert for this coloring page. Imagine you’re taking a leisurely stroll and come across this skull with some beautiful succulents in and around it. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin and the heat of the breeze as it blows through your hair. Take in the beautiful warm colors of the desert and put them to the paper.

If you have any requests or suggestions, feel free to drop them in a comment below. I have one request I’m already working on that I can’t wait to share with you. As always, happy coloring!

Crocodile Coloring Sheet

Yesterday I was looking for inspiration for a new coloring sheet when I thought of the drawing my son and I had done together. He had been eating a piece of bread with his dinner one night and he decided it looked like a crocodile. So naturally, I grabbed a sheet of paper and started drawing for him. He would tell me new things to add as I would draw. It was a rough sketch and the tail was cut off so I decided to make it a little more comical and add a few things that might take it more interesting to color. Out came this cute little crocodile coloring sheet.

Coloring Sheet: croc in a top hat

I thought it was cute and funny. I probably laughed a little harder than I should have while I was creating this piece…but that is probably because of the pregnancy hormones.

While you’re coloring, imagine you’re looking at a crocodile who is patiently waiting for his love to return. Maybe she’s visiting her mother…or maybe she’s having a fun vacation before they settle down. In any case, this crocodile coloring sheet is silly and fun and worth the time to color it in.

Let me know what you think and feel free to drop your finished coloring page below. As always, happy coloring!

Coffee and Dinosaurs

Today is day 8 of my coloring sheet series and I’m excited to share with you the two sheets I’ve made. Today is about coffee and dinosaurs. Do you love coffee as much as I do? If you haven’t read my post about coffee, you should check it out.

I’m sure most of us parents out there feel the need for coffee in the morning and maybe even sometimes in the afternoon. There really isn’t a bad time for coffee. Especially when you’re trying to figure out this whole homeschooling thing during the middle of a pandemic.

For the parents I’ve made a drawing of a coffee cup with my own take on Van Gogh’s Starry Night. The image is made of coffee beans and is also the coffee. You can color it in shades of brown or if you’re feeling traditional you can look up Starry night and use the same color palate. The reason I chose to do this is because, for the coffee lovers out there, the taste of coffee (in my opinion) can sometimes imitate art. Like…who thinks of these flavors and ways to make coffee? God bless the geniuses who did.

Coloring Sheet: coffee

For the kids I’ve drawn some dinosaurs. Because who doesn’t love a good dinosaur drawing? My younger daughter loves Jurassic World and even had a dinosaur themed birthday last year. It was super fun to create the decorations for her.

Coloring Sheet: dinosaurs

Have fun spending some quality time with your kiddos while you color together. I know I’ll be enjoying the coffee drawing and maybe a coffee to drink as well. Feel free to encourage your kids to learn the names of the dinosaurs or to even get inspired and draw one of their own. My older daughter loves to draw “longneck” mamas that have a baby in their belly. It’s the cutest thing.

I hope you enjoy the coffee and dinosaurs coloring sheets today and as always, happy coloring!

Sun and Moon Mandala

Hi guys! Thanks for stopping by. I got off to a very late start today. Being 7 months pregnant is starting to get to me. But, I still wanted to make something for you. I was looking through some old photos on my phone and found a sketch I had done years ago but it was one that I love and wanted to share. It is a sun and moon mandala. Very simple but also pretty and sort of elegant looking. I re-sketched it, added a few things and took out some others.

Coloring Sheet: Sun and Moon Mandala

I suppose the sun looks more like a full moon and you could run with that if you’d like. Or you could add some sunbursts radiating outward from the larger circle. I’m totally up for you to add and change my artwork as you please. Because artwork is always a work in progress. Perhaps you like it just the way it is and only want to color it in…that’s fine also.

Whatever you choose, I hope you enjoy and that it helps you disconnect from the stress of the world around you…if only for a few minutes. If you care to share, post a picture of your finished coloring and let me know how you liked it. If there is anything you want to see or ideas you want to share I’d love to know. Happy coloring!

Mother’s Day Coloring Sheet

Happy Mother’s Day to all my mamas out there! This is such a wonderful day to celebrate all of the hard work that we do as mothers. And if you’re not a mother, it’s a great time to celebrate the mother in your life…whether she is biological or just a motherly figure. Give this Mother’s Day coloring sheet as a quick extra gift for the mother in your life.

I know that my mom still loves my artwork even though that might sound cheesy. I think it’s because I took the time to think about her and do something kind. Even if it’s just a little piece of paper with some scribbles on it.

I wanted to do a little something to celebrate the moms out there so I’ve made a bouquet of flowers with a banner that says Happy Mother’s Day. This is a fun one for moms and kids alike. Even dads can print this one out and surprise the mothers in their lives.

Coloring Sheet: Mother's Day

This is definitely not a realistic looking drawing but it’s fun for kids to see the more cartoon style drawings. I even like to color in these style of drawings. I feel like I tend to follow the way nature looks when I color. With more cartoon style drawings I feel like I can bend the rules and use more vibrant colors and patterns. That’s one thing I love about drawing with my kids. Have a flower? Let’s color it green or brown. Not a color you usually find on a flower but still cool. A puppy? Let’s color it purple. I’ve never seen a purple puppy but hey…whatever works.

Enjoy creating something beautiful with this Mother’s Day coloring sheet. You can do this with your kids for yourself or for your own mom. Remember it’s the thought that counts and the quality time spent together. I know that myself and my kids will be coloring these in tomorrow, just for fun. Happy coloring!

Succulent coloring sheet

Today has been busy celebrating Mother’s Day a day early. But I still wanted to give you at least one new page. I’ve chosen to make a succulent coloring sheet because although they aren’t really flowers, some of them do flower and they are actually quite beautiful. I feel like succulents are little hidden gems. They can be colorful or have muted tones and a lot of them actually look like flowers with their petal orientation. They are also super resilient and require small amounts of water. So, if you’re like me and get super busy with your kids, you can go a while without watering and still have living plants. Score!

Succulent Coloring Sheet

I was never a big fan of succulents until a friend of ours gave my daughters each one to take home after visiting. We planted them in an empty strawberry pot and began to watch them grow. Each time we would visit they would get a new one to add to their collection. It was so much fun for them and our friends.

I didn’t know anything about succulents before but I found out that they are surprisingly easy to take care of. After they grew a little bigger they became so much more beautiful than I had imagined they would. Taking on floral shapes and some of them actually producing flowers. What’s more fun than watching the plants grow and change is seeing my girls’ excitement about these plants. Watching them watch their plants grow and flourish with a little love and care has been such a beautiful thing.

If you’ve never had a succulent you might consider getting one. They make great houseplants as well. I hope you enjoy this succulent coloring sheet as much as my girls enjoy their actual succulents. Share a picture of your coloring page if you’d like and as always…happy coloring!

Coloring Day 4

Today is coloring day 4! Man oh man has this been an undertaking. I do have to say, the more that I am drawing the easier it is getting to come up with new ideas. Today I have some beach inspired sheets for you . When I was growing up I used to visit Huntington Beach in California all the time! That was and still is a very happy place for me.

I remember as I got older we would park in the cute little neighborhoods and walk to the beach with all of our things for the day. Aside from the beach, one of the prettiest things that I would see as we would walk down the streets were the flowers in people’s front yards. My favorite being the hibiscus flower. To me, it embodies everything about the beach. It’s soft, wavy, and bright like the sun and the sand. I could stare at these all day and just feel happy.

Coloring Day 4: hibiscus

Next up is a beach scene. This is definitely not what Huntington Beach looks like but it is a cute little beach all the same. Imagine that you’re here basking in the sun and listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. Perhaps you’re learning to surf. Or maybe there’s a surfer nearby taking a break and enjoying the warmth of the sun as well.

Coloring Day 4: beach

I hope coloring day 4 transports you to a peaceful beach where you can enjoy some warmth and beautiful flowers along the way. Hibiscus usually come in reds, oranges, and yellows, but feel free to choose any colors you like. I actually have a painting that I made on wooden planks of this beach scene. It’s slightly different but so pretty with the deep blues of the ocean. The best part is you can make this ocean from anywhere. Tropical oceans tend to be more light or turquoise blue where oceans near California are darker blue and sometimes even have a brown hue to the water. I hope you enjoy, and as always, happy coloring!

Coloring Sheet Day 3

Hey there! Glad to have you back for more. Today is coloring sheet day 3 and I’m excited to share what I’ve come up with. We are in the middle of Spring out here in California and it gave me the idea to make some coloring sheets that are related to this. For the rest of this month I’ll be trying to create pages that feel full of springtime and fresh air.

Today I have a sunflower for you. I absolutely LOVE sunflowers. This is actually part of the inspiration for the name of my blog “The Sunshine Crew”. Last summer I planted some giant sunflowers in our backyard and they got to be so huge! They made my whole family so happy to look at and of course how do they not remind you of sunshine? So…along with my little ones who always seem to be happy and bring sunshine to my day, and this big beautiful sunflower, the blog was born.

Coloring Sheet Day 3: sunflower

Next up for you is a camping scene. I don’t know about you but I have been dreaming about camping since this past winter. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some camping in before baby #4 arrives this summer. There’s nothing quite like the fresh air and peace and quiet of the mountains to make you forget about life’s troubles.

Coloring Sheet Day 3: camping

Imagine yourself in these images. Let the pages from Coloring Sheet Day 3 take you away for a few minutes while you relax in the colors that you choose. I hope that you can escape for a while and forget about life’s troubles. I forgot how much I love to draw and create new things. I’m so glad I decided to create these coloring sheets for others. I really do hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Happy coloring!
